1-Branding-What-is-it-and-why-do-I-need-it

Water. Two parts hydrogen, one part oxygen; a readily available resource essential to human survival. Used for drinking, bathing, washing, nourishment, and countless other tasks, water is part of everyday life. And what does water have to do with Branding? Keep reading.

Water is a free resource naturally available to humankind. Water became a product the day humanity began to commercialize it and sell it in different packages.

If water is always the same resource, the same chemical formula, clear, transparent, and liquid, how can companies sell it and convince you to buy their water instead of someone else’s? The answer is easy. By creating a brand.

The Branding Journal quotes The American Marketing Association which defines a brand this way:

[It] is a name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller’s good or service as distinct from those of other sellers.

In short, a brand is who you are (or your company is) at the core. Beyond that, it's the personality of your company. Think of some of the brands and associations that come to mind when thinking of water. Some want to make you look cool, young, or sophisticated.  According to the Balance:

A brand serves as a guide to understanding the purpose of business objectives. It enables you to align a marketing plan with those objectives and fulfill the overarching strategy.

Stated simply, a brand guides your business objectives. It’s who your company is, as well as what and how you want to communicate. Part of branding is what you feel when you think of or encounter a specific brand.

The Importance of Branding

When we realize that branding is how our target customer perceives us, it becomes easy to see why branding is so important.

In upcoming blogs, we will discuss more of the branding process:

  • Who does branding effect?
  • How is it done?
  • What does it include?
  • How do I maintain brand consistency by using the elements and principles of design?
  • What are the benefits of branding?
