What is Affinity Publisher anyway? Maybe you've never heard of it. Maybe you've only heard of Indesign.
Affinity Publisher is the newest, high-level software on the desktop publishing software scene. It can be used for creating anything from billboards and business cards to social media graphics and ebooks. In many ways it's better than Indesign — without the high price point.
Sounds like a pretty sweet program, right?
You may be wondering “I’ve heard Adobe Indesign does the same thing, and you say this is a new program. Shouldn’t I stick with proven software that’s been around a while?”
That’s a valid concern, but I’m going to tell you why it’s unfounded. Serif, the company that created Affinity Publisher, started in 1987. Their first app, Affinity Designer, has won Apple Design Award in 2015. Their highly creative team has helped innovate some of the newest technologies on the design scene.
Serif’s newest app, Affinity Publisher, really streamlines desktop publishing with its vector and photo-editing capabilities. These capabilities make it better than some of the best graphic design software available. Publisher works very well on its own, but its StudioLink capability — linking Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo, and Affinity Publisher is unique and makes it hard to beat. I love that you can create page layouts, design illustrations, and edit photos all within the same program. It saves so much time!
While I’m not going to tell you that learning Publisher won’t take work, I will give you a tip. If you are going to learn new software, having someone teach you is the way to go. What better way to do that than an online course where things are both explained and shown. That’s why Attract + Transform is so great.
Cheap
I really don’t like using the word “cheap” because it suggests poor quality. Both Affinity Publisher and this course are anything but. As a graphic designer of 10+ years, I will tell you that the features of Affinity Publisher rival, if not exceed, those of Adobe Indesign. Although I haven’t been using this software for long, I have used it to design many quality, pieces of print and web design collateral for million dollar+ companies.
While Affinity Publisher is not free, unlike Adobe, it is not purchased by subscription only. For me, the low up front cost, the free updates, and the range of capabilities makes it a no brainer.
Plus, Affinity Publisher opens certain Indesign files. If your Indesign files is saved in the IDML format, Affinity Publisher opens them no problem.
And while Attract + Transform isn’t free either, it’s less expensive than going to school. In the long run, it’s also less expensive — time wise — than trying to hack it together on your own. That’s why Attract + Transform is “cheap.”
Fast
While it can be argued that no quality online course is truly fast, online courses are the quickest ways to learn new skills. Attract + Transform is no different. This course consists of three modules and teaches the basics (and some more advanced features) of what you need to know to effectively use this software. That’s why Attract + Transform is fast.
