Love Beyond Degree is a study on the book of Hosea from George Zemek and Todd Murray. The book divides into fourteen chapters, each covering a chapter in Hosea. Each chapter divides into two sections. The first is an exposition of the biblical text and the second is the application of the same text.

Concept
My dad is friends with both Dr. Zemek and Todd Murray. Because he dabbles in design, the authors gave him the opportunity to come up with the cover concept. After much back and forth between them, the cover concept was decided upon and the work came to me.
Layout
My task was to photograph/scan a print of the painting, color correct the image, and finalize the layout. After getting the image just right, I began working on a way to make the title just a little different. If this book is talking about the eternally relentless love of God, shouldn’t that be pictured in the title’s appearance?
When thinking of this, the word “infinite” comes to mind. Because of this, I made two letters represent the lemniscate (∞) which in turn symbolizes the concept of infinity.
After completing this typographic manipulation, I placed and arranged the various elements in Indesign. When the design is complete on my end, the finished design goes back to the authors for proofing. When corrections are finalized and the proof is approved, the project comes back to me one more time. I prepare a print-ready file which is then sent to the printer.
